#RushHourRap – Childish Gambino – Heartbeat

This absolute banger was released in 2011, back when the rapper Childish Gambino was just Donald Glover’s side project, before he evolved into pound for pound the most talented guy in entertainment. Think about it, he can legitimately rap, he can crush a stand up set, he was a writer for shows like 30 Rock, and he won a Lead Actor Emmy on a show that he created and writes for in Atlanta. Save some shine for the rest of us, man.

“Heartbeat” was on Gambino’s 2011 debut album Camp, which is an excellent collection of catchy songs, serious raps, but also delving into some introspective insecurities from the then 28-year-old. The other single from this album “Bonfire” was another heater that was even featured in an Adidas commercial with RGIII, back when he was coming off a Heisman and was the next “it” guy. Gambino went on to release the even better Because the Internet in 2013, which we’ve featured before with tracks like “Sweatpants.” Gambino dropped an album earlier this year called 3.15.20, as well as his more crooning, funk style album Awaken My Love back in 2016, which will probably be best remembered for providing the chilling intro to “Get Out” with his “Redbone” track.

Robert Griffin III Confirmed Dragon Ball Z Guy With This MASSIVE Tattoo

So Robert Griffin III unveiled a gigantic tattoo immortalizing Goku and the Hulk with the ink covering his entire leg. The tattoo artist Nic Westfall told TMZ that RGIII sat for 10 hours to knock out the Goku/Hulk leg sleeve.

It’s crazy how many gigantic, badass NFL players are diehard Dragon Ball Z fans like the nerd thats writing this blog.

I mean the examples go on and on, Adidas even did a DBZ sneaker collaboration a couple of years ago. So if anyone ever tells you something you like is dumb, just remember that some of the greatest, toughest athletes in the world are just big nerds at heart.

Now back to Griffin himself. It’s easy to forget how big RGIII was back in 2012-13 when he was the most exciting mobile quarterback since Michael Vick. He was a legitimate track star at Baylor and ran a 4.4 40 yard dash at the combine. RGIII was one of the guys leading the wave of mobile QBs coming into the NFL at the time and succeeding, ultimately paving the way for team’s to build around guys like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Kyler Murray etc. Guys that would have been looked down upon for being mobile QBs only a decade ago. Griffin, Cam Newton, Russell Wilson all came into the league within a year of each other and permanently changed the way people viewed mobile QBs. No longer were they viewed as “rushing” QBs who had to rely on their legs. They were the new hybrid that was here to stay. RGIII was the Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler in his first season, unfortunately for him he had that horrible ACL injury and was never the same.

RGIII really did help usher in a new age of quarterbacks though. It used to be a joke between my friends and I playing Madden in college because I would pick whatever team had a mobile guy as the backup QB and shred people. I would go out of my way to play with Troy Smith or Tyrod Taylor. But seriously, just look at how many mobile quarterbacks are starters in the NFL today. I count 8-11. Jackson, Mahomes, Newton, Russell, Murray, Watson, Gardner Minshew, Josh Allen. And if you wanted to you could throw in Dak Prescott, Baker Mayfield, Teddy Bridgewater, and Tyrod Taylor (who would be starting if not for the medical malpractice that happened on the sidelines in Week 1). Thats a third of the league!

So this is apropos of nothing, but the RGIII DBZ headline caught my attention so I had to give Griffin some love and reflect back on how big of an impact he had on the game in a relatively short period of time.

RGIII and Santana Moss are Beefing Over…..Mike Shanahan?

ESPN – Robert Griffin III celebrated when the Washington Redskins fired coach Mike Shanahan, former teammate Santana Moss said. However, Moss told a local radio station, Griffin’s giddiness hurt him in the end. Griffin denies having done so and, via Twitter on Tuesday, told Moss that “to openly lie about me is a betrayal.”

If I’m Robert Griffin ya know what I’m saying to Santana Moss? Fuck you bro. Seriously. So RGIII denies Santana Moss’ claim below that Griffin celebrated when Shanahan got fired by the R-words.

“When the whole thing went about, we hear that Mike Shanahan’s not coming back the next year, then we hear the quarterback like, ‘Hey. Mm-hmm,'” Moss told The Fan. “Like, basically saying that, ‘Hey, you got me out of here not playing last year, the last few games, then that’s what happens. You get fired.”

Griffin SHOULD have celebrated. Shanahan fucking RUINED Griffin’s career. After being the second overall pick in 2012, playing at a record setting level and winning Rookie of the Year, Griffin was poised for an exciting and game changing career. Then after hurting his knee in the playoffs Shanahan’s the guy running his franchise QB back out into a game on a shaky knee that he should not have been playing on; especially not as a mobile QB.

Not surprisingly Griffin completely fucks his knee up and his career is basically over after that as he’s never the same. So if I’m RGIII I’m dancing on Mike Shanahan’s grave when he gets fired a year later. Especially if I’m now reduced to playing pickup ball at the YMCA like a washed up high school workout warrior.

My advice? Embrace the hate Robert. Blow up Mike Shanahan and Santana Moss’ spot. People would respect that. Hell maybe thats what gets you back in the league because its definitely not your lightning rod politics that are keeping you out of the league. Develop a bad boy reputation, embrace the haters. No pressure no diamonds.

Remember that Rob. I’d watch out if I was Santana though, RGIII isn’t even subtweeting anymore. The gloves are clearly off now.

Johnny Manziel is Still on the NFL Comeback Trail

ProFootball Talk – The odds of Johnny Manziel getting a second chance in the NFL remain long. Yet, despite having not played since 2015, the former Heisman Trophy winner apparently is drawing more interest then Colin Kaepernick. Manziel said Saturday he has had a couple of conversations with NFL teams about a comeback. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported in March that Manziel had breakfast with Saints coach Sean Payton at the Super Bowl to discuss a return.

Right now doesn’t seem like a great time to be a comeback story in the NFL, especially as a QB. With guys like RGIII, Colin Kaepernick and Vince Young in the news for not being able to even get a training camp invite, you can’t be too optimistic for Johnny Football here. However, he was a first round pick, a Heisman winner, and is still only 24 years old somehow. That last sentence just made me feel old as hell.

So while I don’t anticipate it, if Manziel is finally done being a goddamn boozebag and is actually working out again, why not give him a shot? Of all the guys I mentioned above who can’t get a job, they all have some baggage. Kapernick obviously has been a lightning rod for anti-police protests, Vince Young is 34(!), and RGIII is a mobile QB with a surgically repaired knee (thank you Mike Shanahan). Manziel is undersized and has been a party animal, but he’s the youngest guy on this list and with all the egos in the NFL I would think someone would want to take a shot on this guy.
