Brace Yourselves, Ads On Jerseys Have Arrived

screen-shot-2017-01-26-at-9-17-03-am

Here we go. Logos on NBA jerseys have arrived. I talked about how disastrous this would be for jersey guys last April and I haven’t changed my mind. One little GE patch isn’t the end of the world, but guys come on…you just slapped a washing machine logo on one of the most iconic jerseys of all time.

But my point is, this won’t be the end of it. The NBA isn’t going to just stitch one logo on a jersey, pocket the money and move on. No, no, no. In fact according to Darren Rovell, a bunch of owners already asked Wyc Grousbeck how much GE paid to have that logo on the Celtics jersey. I believe it was reportedly $7 million. So yea, I’m sure owners will just do that once and be done with it.

Nope, sooner than later the NBA is going to look like a goddamn La Liga game or a NASCAR race with all the advertising vomited onto jerseys.

And that is the No. 1 thing I hate about soccer; you don’t even know what the freaking team name is by looking at the jersey. That’s insane. If you weren’t a soccer fan, what would you think the name of this team is?

You’d think it was the Chevys or something. You would not know this is Manchester United OR a team from Manchester at all. So a quick preview of what to expect from NBA jerseys sooner than later:

PS – If anyone thinks that adding logos to jerseys will stop or even reduce the onslaught of commercials during an NBA game you are outside of your mind. Teams and owners will continue to squeeze blood out of a stone because we are all sheep who will sit through 12 commercials in the last 2 minutes of a game.

Patriots are Headed Back to the Super Bowl as Tom Brady Continues to Be American Royalty

Tom Brady and Gisele continue to be true American royalty.

screen-shot-2017-01-23-at-9-25-25-am

Huge win for the Patriots, especially after all the talk about the “tomato cans” they’ve played, their weak strength of schedule, and how the Steelers are a playoff tested team. Didn’t matter. Cannot stop TB12 on the Drive for Five. We’ll have more of a game recap later today. Until then just set this pic of Tom and Gisele as your laptop background.

Chip Kelly is Meeting with Belichick and the Patriots After Not Getting Jaguars OC Job

Man I feel like I saw someone predicting this weeks ago. Oh right it was me.

Sure McDaniels may not be off to San Francisco, but tell me the Patriots and his good friend Bill Belichick would not welcome the offensive brain of Chip Kelly. I predicted Chip coming on as an offensive analyst for the Patriots earlier this month after SF dumped him. The guy needs to reboot his career after a couple of rocky years in San Fran and Philadelphia. Most of the NFL jobs are already dried up and I don’t think he wants to go back to college. Plus Oregon hired a new coach like 2 weeks before he got fired by the 49ers, which may be the only reason he’s not back in the NCAA ranks already.

Bill has a history of bringing on guys he trusts during playoff runs too. In 2011 he brought McDaniels on as an offensive analyst while Bill O’Brien was still the OC. Maybe it doesn’t happen in the playoffs, but I still see him ultimately joining the Patriots staff. It just makes too much sense.

Bruins in Free Fall; Reportedly Discussing Trading Rookie Defenseman Brandon Carlo

bruins-dumpster-fire-358x356

CSNNE – “The entire Bruins management group should be fired on the spot if they trade a 20-year-old, top pairing shutdown defenseman on an entry level contract like [Brandon] Carlo unless they are getting a bona fide superstar in return…[Gabriel] Landeskog is not a bona fide superstar. He’s a good player that’s topped out at 26 goals and 65 points in the NHL…If the price were right for Landeskog it would make all the sense in the world for the Bruins to deal him, but it’s a giant honking red flag that Colorado is looking to unload a player like him that’s signed for a reasonable $5.5 million price tag over the next four seasons. Teams don’t trade young players like that with term unless there’s more to the story, and that’s something the Bruins would do well to consider before giving up a player that could be a top-4 shutdown defenseman in Boston for the next 10 years.

It’s that time of year again; the annual Bruins make a panic trade and move key assets just to maybe try and get the No. 8 seed. They’ve done it the last two years, trading away prospects and draft picks for guys like John Michael Lyles. I mean to be fair the Bruins haven’t traded away a really good young player in like 3 years.

Coming into the year, the Bruins defense core was supposed to be a disaster and would ultimately be what sank the team. Except Chara has played very well (and stayed healthy), Krug’s been solid, even McQuaid has made an impact this year with his physicality (when the linesmen aren’t holding his arms down). But, the emergence of Brandon Carlo as a top pairing defenseman has been the lone bright spot to this so far shitty season. Guy is a 20 year old rookie who has been playing like a future centerpiece.

Now if the rumors from Bleacher Report are true, then the Bruins are looking to make a deal for Colorado’s winger Gabriel Landeskog. Landeskog is 24, was a former No. 2 overall pick and has four 20 goal seasons. So why are the Avalanche looking to get rid of him?

Sounds like a pretty good player to get back, but I’m skeptical. I’m with Haggs on this one; red flag city. This team is a dumpster fire that is probably going to miss the playoffs again. I don’t want to see the Bruins burn the prime of guys like Bergeron, Rask and Marchand, but I also don’t want to see young guys getting dealt in panic moves just to get the No. 8 seed.

Or who knows, maybe this is our version of the Dallas Tyler Seguin trade. Maybe we’re getting a steal because the other team is run by morons for a change.

Patriots Preparing to Stomp the Steelers Out Zoolander Style

This is just too good not to post. Just picturing TB12 and the Pats players driving to the stadium every day as the Steelers are busy talking shit and Facebook Live streaming their coach’s postgame speech.

patriotszoolander

Thank God Tom Brady just came out with his new science altering PJs last week. Just in time. The whole team is probably sleeping like lambs. Just catching all the z’s before they stomp the Steelers out on Sunday.

Red Sox Re-Sign Jackie Bradley Jr. for $3.6 Million to Avoid Arbitration

ESPN – “The Boston Red Sox have avoided salary arbitration with Jackie Bradley Jr., agreeing to a $3.6 million deal with the All-Star outfielder, a source told ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick. Bradley made $546,500 last season and will be eligible for arbitration in each of the next three years. Bradley, 26, enjoyed a breakout season in 2016, batting .267 with career highs of 26 home runs, 87 RBIs and 94 runs scored. He was voted a starter for the American League in the All-Star Game and helped Boston win the AL East with a 93-69 record.”

Its a good thing the Red Sox stuck with it when guys like Jackie Bradley Jr were struggling because with all the $20 million pitchers on the roster, theres not really much money left for expensive outfielders. Now the Sox have one of the best outfielders in all of baseball and all 3 guys are on rookie contracts. As anti-Theo as Dombrowski is, that is exactly what Theo preaches. Build up your farm system to be the core of your team and then add in a few high priced vets to fill out the roster, especially pitching.

I’m sure JBJ’s number will continue to rise, but if he puts up numbers similar to last year then $3.6 million is an absolute bargain. Not a bad bump for him either, essentially getting paid 6x what he made last year. I’d take that deal every day of the week.

Voltron at 3B Cancelled by Red Sox; Plouffe Signs with the A’s

voltron

MassLive – “The Oakland Athletics have agreed to a deal with infielder Trevor Plouffe worth approximately $5 million plus incentives, according to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball and FanRag Sports. It had been reported Dec. 27 that the Red Sox were interested in signing Plouffe.”

Cancel the assembling of Voltron at third base. The Red Sox had been reported as in on Trevor Plouffe, which would have been at the very least some competition for the Panda at the hot corner. But he just signed with the Oakland A’s so cancel that. Welp, at least we all know Sandoval is the beacon of self control, inner fortitude and loves to compete with himself… Marco Hernandez is gonna push the shit out of Panda or maybe Brock Holt just up and takes the job for a couple months at a time. Or maybe, in a wild twist the $100 million third baseman starts earning some paychecks. Buckle up.

Also, $5 million bucks for a career .247 hitter? Peace.

Would Bryce Harper Spurn the Yankees Over His Lettuce?

bryceharperhair

Yahoo – “Even the most ardent Bryce Harper haters have to admit one thing: The Washington Nationals outfielder has a strong hair game. We’re not just talking about the hair on his head, either, though it is spectacular…It’s no secret Harper rooted for the Yankees growing up, and there’s been speculation about him joining the club the instant he becomes a free-agent for years now. Knowing that, [Clint] Frazier took the opportunity to do a little recruiting for New York.”

If you’ve ever had any hope of Bryce Harper spurning the Yankees (who he’s long been rumored to be destined for in Free Agency), then this is your best shot. Bryce Harper, the young, cocky dude who mashes dingers all while rocking the best hair in baseball and a full beard. Not on the Yankees because of their nonsensical rules on hair and facial hair. Bryce would have to shave the beard and start rocking a boy’s regular. Not this guy.

bryceharperhairflip

Would his glorious lettuce be enough for Harper to say forget that, I’ll go mash somewhere else and look like Jayson Werth if I want? Thats what I’m hoping at least. I love Harper and I think he’d be a cult figure in Boston; a fiery asshole that lives and dies with every play, runs into walls and absolutely rakes? Yea I think Massholes would take a liking to him. Either way, anyone but the Yankees. Thats just what they need, an MVP slugger in his prime. Don’t do it Bryce. Just look at the damage the Yankees have done to lettuce over the years.

PS – I’m already distraught over the lettuce that Yankees top prospect Clint Frazier will soon have to axe. RIP.
