Former NBA Player Anthony Carter’s Agent Lost Him $3 Million Because He FORGOT to File Some Paperwork

New York TimesAfter the 2002-03 season, Carter, then 27, was planning to exercise a $4.1 million player option to remain in Miami. Picking up the option was a no-brainer. Carter was coming off a disappointing season in which he averaged 4.1 points on .356 shooting in 49 games. For a player with that stat line, $4.1 million was a fortune.

Except Carter’s agent, Bill Duffy, failed to notify the Heat by the June 30 deadline that Carter was coming back. Instead of locking in another season in Miami, Carter accidentally became a free agent.

The mistake cost him at least $3 million. Carter had to settle for a minimum contract with the San Antonio Spurs — roughly $750,000 — the next season, rather than the $4.1 million he would have locked in by exercising his option.

The fact that Bill Duffy is still a licensed NBA agent, let alone Luka Doncic’s agent, after losing Anthony Carter $3 MILLION dollars because he forgot to file some paperwork is legitimately unbelievable.

Not only that, he’s still Anthony Carter’s agent! (Or at least still “looks over” Carter’s contracts) That is a ride or die friend, folks. If Carter gets pinched and needs a fall guy, Duffy better be first in line to take the bid. Carter must have had Duffy on speed dial as his gopher for anything and everything like Sean Boswell in Tokyo Drift.

To be fair he did pay Carter back for the lost wages over the last 17 years, which is not to be minimized because that is some honorable stuff right there. But my god, imagine being the agent and realizing what you’ve done? Must have felt like the mom from Home Alone except instead of committing a light bit of child abuse, you just punted on $3 MILLION dollars.

In an old ESPN article from Marc Stein, Duffy blames an unnamed staffer for a “clerical error,” which is the least believable thing I’ve ever read. You don’t entrust a $4.1 million contract to a paper pushing intern, you make sure that shit gets signed, sealed, and delivered. If that really is the case though and that is a true story, I hope Duffy walked into the guy’s office and fired him Ari Gold style.

If nothing else, I suppose this is a feel good story that should remind us that money isn’t everything. Duffy screwed up, paid Carter back, Carter went on to make $17 million in the NBA during his career and is now an assistant coach for the Miami Heat. Duffy for his part got some goodwill for doing the right thing and landed the next great NBA mega star in Doncic as his top client. See? Everything works out in the end.

The Fast and Furious 9 Trailer is Here and It. Is. Glorious.

The Fast and Furious 9, or F9 if you want to be official, trailer is here and it. is. glorious. I’m what some may call a bit of a hipster Fast fan as I was an un-ironic diehard of the original. Seriously, I made the mecca to LA to visit Dom Toretto’s house.

2 Fast 2 Furious was fine, but then I also loved watching Tokyo Drift, especially drunk after the bar since Spike TV aired it at 2 am routinely.

A lot of people jumped on the bandwagon with the release of 4 and 5, but I cannot state how excited, albeit skeptical, I was when Vin Diesel revealed the plan to have TEN movies in the Fast-verse. Now No. 9 is up along with another nonsensical title which I have to believe is being done intentionally at this point. Seriously just look at this:

The Fast and the Furious
2 Fast 2 Furious
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Fast & Furious
Fast Five
Fast & Furious 6
Furious 7
The Fate of the Furious
F9

Now lets break down some of the highlights of this Oscar bait.

Dom apparently has a son now?

John Cena Toretto

Charlize Theron has my 6th grade haircut now so there’s that.

Potentially the most absurd stunt to date and thats saying a lot in this franchise.

A Pontiac Fiero with a rocket strapped to it that is apparently faster than a jet.

Also, it seems we are seeking Justice this time around so someone’s been killed, but I can’t imagine they killed off Paul Walker’s character? Then again his wife Jordana Brewster is prominently featured so maybe?

Not to mention the shocking reveal at the end of the trailer. I’ll admit, I gasped. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t watched the trailer yet but it’s a trip.

This bad boy hits theaters on May 22nd and I will be there with bells on.

Jesse from The Fast And The Furious is Alive. Well, Sort Of

Jalopnik – Jesse was such an underrated character in the first Fast & Furious movie, spouting such gems as “overnight parts from Japan” and his prayer to the car gods. Sadly, he didn’t survive to the sequels. But a shop in Canada recreated his car, and the stoke is strong with nostalgia all around here.

Okay, so I guess the actor who played Jesse was always alive, but I haven’t seen him since that dirty motherfucker Johnny Tran gunned him down in LA all those years ago. So it was a little emotional seeing Jesse back with his white Jetta alright?

Maybe this is the phoenix rising from the ashes moment for Jesse?

“The car’s mission is actually to get Jesse’s character back on people’s radar and get him into another Fast & Furious movie as some of you (jokingly?) predicted in the comments.”

YES! Hey you already brought one character back from the dead in Letty, so why not bring back Jesse? Sure, he got filled with lead on Dom Toretto’s front lawn, but I mean Jon Snow got stabbed in the heart and he came back to life. Its Hollywood, just have a throw away line explaining it and people will accept it and move on. We all accepted a street racing mechanic evolving into a criminal mastermind/GI Joe/CIA operative so lets not let the law of reality stop us now guys.

PS – For the cool price of $46,200 I could have owned Jesse’s original Jetta from Fast 1 signed by the late great Paul Walker (may he rest in peace). Thats a bargain and a definitive upgrade from my Mazda.
